Company Information
History
Founded in 1975 in Sheffield, Massachusetts, the company relocated to Richmond, Virginia in 1986. Over the years, we have broadened our scope of expertise from furniture conservation to also include treatment of interior architectural woodwork, wooden artifacts and other objects. Our clientele is equally divided amoung private collectors, museums, institutions, private and public foundations, architects and reputable antique dealers across the country. We specialize in services to house museums without in-house treatment capabilities. An expanded listing of public clientele can be found under clientele and references.
Staff
A dedicated and professional staff is at the foundation of a successful outcome for each project. Every employee of the F.C.Vogt Company is committed to providing the highest levels of craftsmanship, integrity and historical accuracy.Standing:

Fredrick C. Vogt
Rick Vogt, founder and president of the company, developed a keen interest in the preservation of furniture over thirty-five years ago. Since then he has pursued his education as an Art history major at the University of Cincinnati, seven years of apprenticeships with various restoration firms, taking courses through the Smithsonian’s furniture conservation programs and continues to avail himself to educational opportunities made available through the AIC, a variety of museums and an aggressive self study agenda.

Facility
Housed in a 6000 square foot building, the workshop, offices and storage areas are humidity and temperature stable. The premises is monitored 24/7 for security and fire. Items are stored in a dust free protected area. Photography and lab facilities are also on the premises.
General Information
Communication
Our success depends on our clients trusting us to be ethical in our business practices. It is essential that communications between us and our clients is factual, clear and simple. We go to great lengths to explain the conservation process, contractual information and to answer any questions. Whether the project is large or small, we endeavor to be as detailed as possible in these areas.
All projects involve contractual information including a condition report, description of work to be performed, time frame for the project and price range. Costs for work are only given at a careful examination of the object and the client is fully informed of the time and expenses involved.
Insurance
Insurance is provided by the company, although highly valuable objects may require a specific rider at additional cost. Specific insurance requirements are discussed in the project contract.
The F.C. Vogt Company is fully licensed and insured and operates as a Virginia "C" corporation.
Documentation
Documentation is made of all procedures and a treatment report is provided. The standards adhered to by the F.C.Vogt Company for reporting, documentation, professional conduct, examination and long term preservation of cultural property are outlined in the AIC “Guidelines for Practice” concerning acceptable conservation criteria.
Transportation
Shipping and handling requirements vary, depending upon the object and distance objects are packed, crated or blanket wrapped as needed by trained employees.
For distances of over 300 miles, shipping arrangements are made through professional art handlers that we determine are qualified.
